Google’s New Sign-In Page Being Taking off, Removes all customization and full email address requirements.
Google today
started rolling out its new sign-in page to all Google Apps customers. Your
business may not see it immediately, however, as the company expects the
process to take four weeks starting today.
Here is what
organizations with Google Apps need to know:
- The Google Apps sign-in page can no longer be personalized with colors and custom logos. It will now look the same across all Google sign-in pages.
- Users will have to log in with their full email address (example: info@company.com).
- For single sign-on (SSO) domains with a network mask, users will be presented with the new Google sign-in page when they log in from outside the SSO network mask. This change does not affect SSO domains without a network mask.
The updated
design is meant to be consistent across all the Google Apps services, including
Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive. Google hopes the change will improve
security by getting users accustomed to the same login process across all its
services, though as we’ve pointed out before, some enterprise companies
probably won’t be too happy that their branding is being stripped.
Moreover, the switch could wind up befuddling numerous as they
won't make certain in the event that they're signing into the correct site
page. Then again, the sign-in page makes it simpler for clients to switch
between records, as it spares all your sign in history so you can just enter
the secret word to get to a particular record.
Google initially declared the new sign-in page would be accessible
"ahead of schedule one year from now." Now we realize that implies
the takeoff will begin now and end one month from now.
Stay
tuned for further updates on Google Apps.
